March 4- Safety Seat Checkup

SafetyBeltSafe USA along with California
Office of Traffic Safety and the Inglewood Police Department are hosting this
Safety Seat Checkup. Buckling up is a family affair, so call to make an
appointment for your checkup now. We will check your car seat and installation.
More than 90% of the car seats inspected at checkups are being used incorrectly.
This is a free opportunity! Walk in are welcome but may have to wait up to one
hour for inspection.

Transition Night 2008- The Opportunities are Endless
North Orange County Community College
District, Anaheim CA
6:00 to 8:00 p.m.
Meet students who have achieved personal
success in transitioning from school to work and independent living. Listen as
they share their experiences of having a job and living on their own. They will
share their secret of how they got their job and what they do to keep it. Come
and meet with vendors from over 40 community agencies including several
community colleges, recreation and day programs, independent living programs,
social security, Department of Rehabilitation, transportation agencies and
employed students. This is a free opportunity presented by the School of
Continuing Education – North Orange County Community College District and
Disabled Student Programs and Services.

Person Centered Thinking Workshops
East Los Angeles Regional Center,
Alhambra, CA
This workshop is for Parents, Vendors, and
Consumers! Eastern Los Angeles Regional Center, in partnership with the Vendor
Leadership Forum, is launching an ongoing Introduction to Person Centered
Thinking training program. This four-part session will be hosted by Joe Donofrio
from Choicess on a monthly basis, every Wednesday morning. There is a fee for
vendors and community members (consumers and families may have fee waived upon
request).

Learning to Play with Your ChildHarbor Regional Center, Torrance, CAHarbor Regional Center is hosting this
training for families of infants and young children. Presenter is Rose
Samaniego, Early Childhood Provider Relations Specialist. Come and learn to use
toys to promote early childhood development. Each participant will receive a toy
to help you promote your child’s development, and a list of other toys that
encourage development. This is a free opportunity, however pre-registration is
required. Immediately following this presentation, the HRC Resource and
Assistive Technology Center will provide a special tour for you.

Alternatives to ConservatorshipEast Los Angeles Regional Center – Whittier Office, Whittier, CAMatthew M. Pope from the Office of Clients
Rights Advocacy will present this training. He will cover the basics of
Limited Conservatorship and suggest viable alternatives. The procedure for
securing alternatives or in obtaining a limited conservatorship will also be
covered. Mandarin and Spanish translators will be available. Please call

IEP Rights & StrategiesEast Los Angeles Family Resource Center, Alhambra, CAThis FREE workshop is hosted by TASK(Team
of Advocates for Special Kids). This workshop will provide an overview of the
Rights and Protections mandated for Special Needs Children by the Individuals
with Disabilities Act (IDEA) and Section 504 of the Vocational Rehabilitation
Act. Communication techniques are intermingled throughout the workshop. Space is
limited and reservations are required.

Crafting for the Cause

All proceeds from this special event will
benefit the Multiple Sclerosis Society. Canyon Verde is hosting this special day
of Crafting Workshops, craft demonstrations, raffles and a craft sale. Workshops
will include jewelry, card crafts, scrapbooking and holiday crafts.
Demonstrations will be sewing, scrapbooking, jewelry and fly fishing. Cost is
$25.00 (which is a direct donation to the MS Society). Space is limited,

East Los Angeles Regional Center is
hosting this frank Adult Conversation presented by Nora Baladerian, PhD.
This presentation will cover sexuality so that we may walk away with a full
understanding and acceptance that individuals with developmental disabilities do
have a sexuality; that they do go through adolescence and become adults, that
sexuality sometimes looks differently than our idea of it and that all
individuals have a right to these differences. We are best and most comfortably
able to be of good service to the individuals that we support when we are well
informed. Dr. Baladerian is a licensed Clinical Psychologist, Licensed MFT,
Certified Sex Therapist and Board Certified Forensic Examiner. She has worked
with individuals with developmental disabilities since 1972, and she is a
published author. Registration fee is $50.00, pre-registration is a must.

Trends in Autism Conference

present their seventh annual conference. This conference will host a
variety of presenters and multiple subjects pertaining to autism. Upon
completion of this conference, you will have an understanding of the basic
underlying neurobiology of the brain in autism/PDD and how this may relate to
some of the clinical features of this disorder. You will also have an
understanding of the new Practice Parameters in regard to the diagnosis,
treatment and education of children on the autism spectrum that have become the
standard of care. Additional objectives include an understanding of strategies
for educational and therapeutic interventions in clinic, community and public

250% Working Disabled Training!Verdugo One-Stop Job Center, Glendale, CAThis is a health and benefits training on
work and disability. Learn vital information on how a person enrolled in
the 250% Medi-Cal Working Disabled Program can maintain their Medi-Cal and
In-Home Supportive Services (IHSS) benefits while earning as much as $50,000 per
year. This training is open to persons with disabilities and professionals who
work with persons with disabilities. This training is presented by the
Personal Assistance Services Council (PASC) in collaboration with the California
