This year is devoted to the presentation of outstanding research in the areas of
neural substrates of autism, emotion and sensory integration. It will include
applications of neuroscience research to intervention, particularly addressing
social and emotional skill development. R2K originated through the collaborative
efforts of the Research Advisory Council and the staff of Pediatric Therapy
Network. PTN invites all individuals who are interested in research that
contributes to understanding child development. Occupational and physical therapists,
speech and language pathologists, psychologists, educators, administrators and
other health-care professionals working with both typically and atypically
developing children should attend. Additionally, parents and other persons
interested in learning more about the emotional and social development of

Stephanie Young MFT. Communication is always a challenge; it is even more
challenging when someone is non-verbal. Just because someone is nonverbal, it
doesn’t mean that they cannot communicate with you. This training will
briefly define what communication is and what it means to communicate. A model
will be presented that shows the relationship between verbal and non-verbal
communication with an in-depth discussion about body language, senses, and the
environmental factors that are essential to non-verbal communication. Our
training will conclude with a discussion on the prompting skills that can be
used to facilitate communication with individuals who are non-verbal.
This training
is appropriate for all parents, families, service providers and educators. There
is no fee
for this presentation.
