Person Centered Thinking Workshops

This workshop is for Parents, Vendors, and Consumers! Eastern Los Angeles Regional Center , in partnership with the Vendor Leadership Forum, is launching an ongoing Introduction to Person Centered Thinking training program. This four-part session will be hosted by Joe Donofrio from Choicess on a monthly basis, every Wednesday morning. There is a fee for vendors and community members (consumers and families may have fee waived upon request).

250% Working Disabled Training!

This is a health and benefits training on work and disability.  Learn vital information on how a person enrolled in the 250% Medi-Cal Working Disabled Program can maintain their Medi-Cal and In-Home Supportive Services (IHSS) benefits while earning as much as $50,000 per year. This training is open to persons with disabilities and professionals who work with persons with disabilities.  This training is presented by the Personal Assistance Services Council (PASC) in collaboration with the California Health Incentive Improvement Project (CHIP). IEP/ITP Transition to Adult Services

This FREE workshop is hosted by TASK(Team of Advocates for Special Kids). This workshop will provide an overview of the Individual Transition Plan (ITP within the IEP at age 16), future planning, how to coordinate services from school to adult services, supported employment, independent living, recreations and post secondary education. Communication techniques are intermingled throughout the workshop. Space is limited and reservations are required

Pediatric Therapy Network is proud to sponsor its ninth annual research symposium (R2K). This year is devoted to the presentation of outstanding research in the areas of neural substrates of autism, emotion and sensory integration. It will include applications of neuroscience research to intervention, particularly addressing social and emotional skill development. R2K originated through the collaborative efforts of the Research Advisory Council and the staff of Pediatric Therapy Network. PTN invites all individuals who are interested in research that contributes to understanding child development.  Occupational and physical therapists, speech and language pathologists, psychologists, educators, administrators and other health-care professionals working with both typically and atypically developing children should attend. Additionally, parents and other persons interested in learning more about the emotional and social development of individuals, especially those on the autism spectrum should attend. This book is famous for being enlightening and thought-provoking as it is authored by two of the leading minds in the field, who themselves have been diagnosed with autism.  Jenny McCarthy is TACA’s (Talk About Curing Autism’s) new spokesperson for families affected by Autism.  She is an actress, comedian, model, mother and author of three NY Times bestsellers and she is also a TACA mom. Barbara T. Doyle, MS is a nationally known teacher, consultant, trainer, presenter and author. She is known for her passionate approach to presenting practical and realistic solutions for everyday issues at home, school, work and social situations. Introduction to Person-Centered Thinking is a two-day training recommended for everyone involved in supporting people with significant disabilities. Participants will develop skills in person-centering thinking through a series of discussions, applied stories and guided exercised. Tri-Counties Regional Center is pleased to present this interactive training with Person-Centered Thinking Trainer Candidates from Tri-Counties Regional Center, Genesis Developmental Services, People Creating Success, Inc. and Work Training Program, Inc. Early Start Institute: Family Resource and Supports

The 2007-2008 Early Start Institute is an evidence based knowledge and skill building series for Early Intervention Service Providers and Early Start Service Coordinators. The series is sponsored by the CA Dept. of Developmental Services under the Early Start Comprehensive System of Personnel Development and coordinated by the WestEd Center for Prevention and Early Intervention.  This session is the Family Resources and Supports Institute, A Decade of Learning and Sharing: The Many Facets of Family Support. This institute provides training to personnel working in the arena of family support. Through intensive, interactive breakout sessions conducted by experienced parent-professional and their partners, participants will: Gain abilities, skills, and knowledge to support their work with families; Collect timely information on a wide variety of topics and resources important to families of infants and toddlers served under Early Start; Network and recharge with colleagues.  For more information please visit www.wested.org/cpei. All are welcome!  Stephanie Young LMFT/Behavior Specialist is the Clinical Director of Crisis Support Services. She has knowledge and expertise to share with us. Stephanie will be facilitating a discussion group specific to behavioral issues.  This is a time to ask questions, work as a team and do some troubleshooting out of the heat of battle.

Non-Verbal Communication

Westside Regional Center is hosting this training featuring presenter, Stephanie Young MFT. Communication is always a challenge; it is even more challenging when someone is non-verbal. Just because someone is nonverbal, it doesn’t mean that they cannot communicate with you.  This training will briefly define what communication is and what it means to communicate. A model will be presented that shows the relationship between verbal and non-verbal communication with an in-depth discussion about body language, senses, and the environmental factors that are essential to non-verbal communication. Our training will conclude with a discussion on the prompting skills that can be used to facilitate communication with individuals who are non-verbal.

This training is appropriate for all parents, families, service providers and educators. There is no  fee for this presentation.
