Kids Included Together (KIT) invites you to their 4th Annual conference. This is a one of a kind conference on inclusion in out-of-school time programs. Over 25 workshops will be presented by leaders in the field of inclusion. Topics will include universal program design, developing inclusive policies and procedures, accommodations for children with social-emotional disorders, ADHD and more. Person Centered Thinking Workshops

This workshop is for Parents, Vendors, and Consumers! Eastern Los Angeles Regional Center, in partnership with the Vendor Leadership Forum, is launching an ongoing Introduction to Person Centered Thinking training program. This four-part session will be hosted by Joe Donofrio from Choicess on a monthly basis, every Wednesday morning. There is a fee for vendors and community members (consumers and families may have fee waived upon request).

Bounce for Autism

Autism Society of America and Pump It Up are partnering to raise awareness and support families affected by Autism. Pump It Up is the nation’s largest and fastest-growing franchise of giant indoor inflatable playgrounds. Together with ASA, they will launch a new nationwide, community-base dfundraising event that combines family fun with raising awareness and support for autism. This conference is sponsored by the Special Needs Network, Inc. A legislative breakfast will be hosted in the morning featuring state, national and local elected officials. The day will close with a book signing with Dr. Barbara Firestone (The HELP Group), and a free copy of her book  Autism Heroes” will be provided to each family. Nine workshops will be included in this day with topics such as: Latest interventions, Family services and advocacy, Diets and vaccines, Alleged cures and a workshop for families recently receiving a diagnosis. Emergency Preparedness and Disaster Planning for Children with Special Health Care Needs

250% Working Disabled Training!

This is a health and benefits training on work and disability.  Learn vital information on how a person enrolled in the 250% Medi-Cal Working Disabled Program can maintain their Medi-Cal and In-Home Supportive Services (IHSS) benefits while earning as much as $50,000 per year. This training is open to persons with disabilities and professionals who work with persons with disabilities.  This training is presented by the Personal Assistance Services Council (PASC) in collaboration with the California Health Incentive Improvement Project (CHIP). In this informative and motivational session, Tom Pomeranz, Ed.D. will detail the values and strategies of Universal Enhancement in promoting a quality life for students with disabilities after high school.  Tom will emphasize the importance of developing “places of employment” for people versus putting people into pre-existing places, such as adult day services that do not emphasize productive work. Grief and Grieving

Westside Regional Center is proud to have Stephanie Young, MFT as our guest presenter for this training. Everyone responds to the loss of a loved one differently, as do people with developmental disabilities. They need someone to guide them, explain what has happened and what they are feeling. This training will teach participants how to support individuals with developmental disabilities through the grief process. Various stages of guidance will be presented and techniques on integrating grieving productively into the individual’s daily routine. Please remember to RSVP, this is a free opportunity.

Suicide Prevention

Stephanie Young, LMFT will be WRC’s guest presenter for this important training. Ms. Young has many years of experience as the Clinical Director of Crisis Support Services and as a behavior consultant.  This training provides a basic outline of how to respond to a potential suicidal situation based on the experiences of our Crisis Team.  To help someone who is experiencing a crisis we will suggest basic guidelines.  Research suggests that the majority of people who attempt suicide literally do something to let others know their intentions before they act.  You will learn how to actively recognize the warning signs of depression and suicide risk; as well as some common suicide myths and misconceptions.
