Person Centered Thinking Workshops

This workshop is for Parents, Vendors, and Consumers! Eastern Los Angeles Regional Center, in partnership with the Vendor Leadership Forum, is launching an ongoing Introduction to Person Centered Thinking training program. This four-part session will be hosted by Joe Donofrio from Choicess on a monthly basis, every Wednesday morning. There is a fee for vendors and community members (consumers and families may have fee waived upon request).

Sensory Experience and Trauma in Early Childhood

Westside Regional Center welcomes back Dr. Mayra Mendez as our guest presenter. She is an expert in the field of developmental disabilities. Dr. Mendez will focus on an introductory understanding of how the mind processes sensory experiences. Specific issues of trauma will be explored in relationship to how early childhood mental experiences are made and their impact on development.  Please call to RSVP.  Dr. Mendez is a crowd favorite at WRC, so please remember to RSVP. Living Well Into the Future- Addressing the Need of Older Adults with Developmental Disabilities

Harbor Regional Center is hosting this training. This workshop will focus on assisting parents, siblings and other family members to recognize and meet the needs of older adults with developmental disabilities. As people with developmental disabilities begin to reach their 40’s and beyond, there are changes in their health, social, financial, and legal needs and supports. Session I deals specifically with “Living Well” and will encompass changing health needs and ways to meet them for your family member. There will also be information available on a variety of living options. Session II concentrates on issues “Into the Future” such as estate planning, and other potential personal, financial and community supports. Session III concentrates on Conservatorship and Guardianship.  Cost is $10.00 payable at the first session.

Will Social Skills Training Help My Child?- Conversations w/ the Experts

Harbor Regional Center is hosting this training. Social skills training is often recommended for children with autism, yet a variety of services are available that all claim to promote social development. It is very difficult for parents to sort through the sea of resources in order to choose the format that will be the best fit for their child and their family. Learn what to look for in a social skills group, in individual play therapy, and what kinds of other services really can help with socialization. Parents are encouraged to bring their own concerns about service planning to this discussion. Presenter is Erika Carpenter, PhD. Registration is a must.

Universal Precautions

Join WRC Nurse Consultant, Evelyn Johnson, RN for this informative training.  This Universal Precautions in-service will define the meaning of, “Universal Precautions” and methods of implementation. We will give information regarding the etiology, spread and prevention of Infectious Diseases including AIDS and Hepatitis A, B, & C. Information will be provided as to Residential Home Infection Control with Housekeeping and Hygiene Guidelines as well as acceptable methods of disinfecting to prevent spread of disease. This is a health and benefits training on work and disability.  Learn vital information on how a person enrolled in the 250% Medi-Cal Working Disabled Program can maintain their Medi-Cal and In-Home Supportive Services (IHSS) benefits while earning as much as $50,000 per year. This training is open to persons with disabilities and professionals who work with persons with disabilities.  This training is presented by the Personal Assistance Services Council (PASC) in collaboration with the California Health Incentive Improvement Project (CHIP).
