California State Parks – detailed information on all of California’s State Parks

Parks that are closer to Los Angeles include :

California Science Center - Hands on Exhibits. The museum is next to the IMAX Theater and the USC campus. Bus routes and hours of operation available.

Children's Museum at La Habra – includes extensive exhibit information as well as activities for parents and teachers.

Discovery Science Center - 120 exciting hands-on science exhibits

Getty Center Museum - The City's newest museum. The Billion dollar campus has beautiful gardens, cafe, museum store, as well as art. No fee, reservations needed for parking, bus routes available.

Grand Canyon National Park - offer paved trails along the South Rim Trail that are easily accessible. The Grand Canyon also waives fees for people with developmental disabilities and provides free wheelchairs for temporary day use.

Griffith Park Observation/Planetarium/Telescope - One of the Historical Spots of LA. Information on hours of operations, fees, and bus routes available. Also a great place for a picnic.

Heal the Bay Marine Education Center at Santa Monica Pier- At the Santa Monica Pier Aquarium, you will be treated to a unique view of the undersea world just steps from our Aquarium’s doors. The family-friendly facility is home to more than 100 species of marine animals and plants – all found in the Santa Monica Bay.

La Brea Tar Pits and Page Museum - See prehistoric animals and the pit they came from. Every first Tuesday of the month is free.

Los Angeles County Museum of Art - has family-oriented programs on Sundays.

Mammoth Lakes Mammoth has three main trails that offer access for short hikes.

Manhattan Beach Pier Aquarium, Oceanographic Teaching Station - Free. Bus routes and phone numbers available.

Museum of Television and Radio - The history of TV, nice atmosphere, see TV shows, bus routes available and fees and hours listed.

Museum of Tolerance - Place that provides information about the importance of tolerance in our society. Includes fees, and bus routes.

Peterson Automotive Museum - Antique cars for viewing. Dates and admission costs.

Shane's Inspiration - Fostering a bias-free world for children with disabilities. Mission is: Creating social inclusion for children with disabilities through the vehicle of inclusive playgrounds and programs.

My PlaygroundSM projects by Shane’s Inspiration are designed to be accessible playgrounds and inclusive  playgrounds for children with disabilities to play along with typically-abled children. These free, outdoor inclusive play environments are age-appropriate and include safe, state-of-the-art, sensory-rich structures that encourage healing in children with developmental disabilities such as Autism, Down Syndrome and Cerebral Palsy.
